Diploma
Level 5 Diploma in Trauma and Mental Health
A practical skills-based course, underpinned by evidence-based research studies. Designed to inform and empower staff to respond effectively to vulnerable children or young people who have experienced trauma and / or have mental health issues by delivering interventions addressing mild to moderate mental health problems, with a focus on recovery. The course is suitable for all adults working in a professional capacity with children.

Course Overview
The training provides delegates with key insights into the psychology and neuroscience of mental ill-health and challenging behaviour alongside vital tools and techniques in knowing how to respond to a child’s narrative of painful life events. So often this is enough to prevent years of suffering and the medicalising of their distress with psychiatric labels and medication. Delegates will also be trained to know when to seek the support of psychologist-led supervision and when due to limits of competence, to refer on.
The course not only focuses on work to support individual children and young people but also on changing whole organisation cultures to be mentally healthy for all. The curriculum covers a wide range of key models to support transformative relational interventions, the use of creative media to help support sense making of life experiences, whole school implementation of trauma and mental health informed practices, how to support children and teenagers who suffer from depression, anxiety, self-harm, display behaviours which challenge and much more…
If you want to change troubled children and teenagers lives, reduce exclusions, improve pupil attendance and staff retention, while positively impacting on the mental health of the school culture as a whole, then this certificated diploma training is a must!

There is an expectation to complete approximately 50 hours of work-based learning in order to deliver a twenty-minute Power Point presentation demonstrating how you have implemented your learning from the course. There is no written exam, however there is a course requirement of 100% attendance.
